2011 Press ReleaseCharities benefit from sponsored bike ride
Three charities have benefited from a staggering £12,750 raised during the annual Pembrokeshire Charity Bike Ride held in August. At a presentation reception held at the Blue Lagoon water park at Bluestone National Park Resort last week, the Pembrokeshire branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Wings Over Pembrokeshire and the Thorne Mason Trust each received a share of the money raised by charity cyclists. "This was our eleventh year and it was a record-breaking year for us in terms of the money raised and the number of entrants," said one of the organisers, Tim Hughes. The event, which normally attracts around 320 entrants and raises on average £9,500 per year, broke all records in 2011 raising £12,750 and attracting 569 entrants who rode a variety of routes, including a 14 mile family route, a 28 mile intermediate route and an advanced route of 64 miles. "We're especially grateful to Bluestone who donated Blue Lagoon family tickets to anyone who raised over £50, as well as a short break for the person who raised the most money. We're sure this helped pull in so many people. We'd also like to thank our other sponsors, South Hook LNG, Radio Pembrokeshire, Webadept and Pembrokeshire Bikes for all their support," added Tim. The bike ride is organised each year by Tim Hughes, Phil Hughes, Martin Vaughan, Dorian Rees, Nigel Flower and Chris Wilson
